I passed this statue of the Thinker a number of times in the past but only recently sought to understand how and when the large size versions came to be since the original sculpture is less than 30 inches high. It turns out that 25 enlarged castings were made from the smaller original and the Cleveland Museum of Art has one of them. Vandals set off a bomb at the base of the statue in 1970, causing the deformities in the feet and legs . The perpetrators were never caught.
